OK, so it’s obvious to the layperson that this blog was left in it’s own dust about a year ago and for that I apologize: I got tired of the look and feel of the user interface as I have the web design skills of a chimpanzee and I can admit it.

Fortunately, whilst trying not to sound like a mobster, I know people who know people and the work on a new site begins today.

If you are in any way interested in me (i.e. friends, family, coworkers) or have a desire to attain a CCIE sign up to the RSS Feed on here and I’ll put out an update to let you know when to come back for the totally revamped site with lots of goodies on it.

Stay tuned…

Well I’m stick in a plane sitting on the Tarmac at Denver waiting for the plane at our gate to move. None of this is going to help me get to San Jose on time, but who really cares? Some things are out of my control it would appear.

I read Faust Part One by Goethe today. It was an interesting read and I’d try to devour Part Two on my next plane trip except I packed it in my checked baggage. At least I have Hardy’s “a course on pure mathematics” to keep me entertained.

Ok, time to “deplane” - I hate that bastardization of English. Later.

I finally feel vindicated in my pursuit and valuation of individual intelligence and reason over, well, what most people value in life.

I’ve spent the day getting almost to the end of Atlas Shrugged and haven’t spent my time so usefully in quite some time. I contrast this with the drunken loutish behaviour of the sunburnt sports fans wandering the streets and the feeling of intellectual isolation reemerges. Or should I say the recognition of intellectual distinction?

I’m going to settle in to Babylon AD now, so I’ll write more later when I desire to.

Hmmm… Time to start on my blog again. I’ve had a busy 2 months - I got my third CCIE, went overseas and am now back.

Firstly, my blog will be overhauled soon. I didn’t like the “professional” feel that it had, so from now on it will resemble extended Facebook status updates. I figure “my blog, my rules”.

I’ve got the wordpress add on for my iPhone installed now, so my posts will now be done via iPhone. That means frequent updates, but potential formatting issues. C’est la vie.

Alright, time for me to go back to reading “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand. It’s the best book I’ve ever read.

This is going to be one of “those” days. I’ve woken up early (about 5ish) and feel compelled to go to a diner and study for my SP lab. It’s about time that the adrenaline started to kick in - now I can study properly. Life’s busy as hell at the moment, but I must admit that at least I’m enjoying myself.

Oh, I’m also up to 9 Facebook fans at the moment, so if you want to be number 10 please click on it. I’ve made a commitment to my friends that if I get to 1,000,000 fans I’ll return from the USA back to Australia and run for Prime Minister - so if that isn’t motivation, what is?

I’ve spent the weekend (well, after Friday) doing labs from the IPexpert SP workbook. I finished Lab 9 on Friday, then did Lab 11 yesterday followed by Lab’s 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19. Today I did Lab 24 and 25. In other words I did most of the labs that don’t overlap with material I learnt in my CCIE R&S. I’ve picked up a few things from all of this and I’m feeling a bit overconfident at the moment, although I have awhile until my lab date still. I think I’ve finally clarified in my mind a set of rules about BGP, MPLS, VPNs etc. that I can take with me and that should see me through. Once I’ve articulated them a little better (it’s one thing to know them, another to explain them) I’ll write a post about them. Now, for my day job, I get to work through the rest of the topic specific labs, proofreading and ensuring that the content is as good as it can be, and rewording things here and there. Fortunately I’ve got a few more weeks to do that. On a personal note, I’d like to put a shout out to a friend who called me on the weekend from Australia (she knows who she is). I hope you’re feeling a little better on this Monday morning (whilst I’m enjoying Sunday afternoon) and remember that the sun always rises…

Well today was either more or less productive than it should have been depending on your viewpoint.

I wanted to get all of the IPexpert CCIE SP Lab 9 completed, but I’d almost finished (in about an hour or two) when I got distracted, decided to establish a blog then went to go see fireworks. It was the best fireworks display I’d seen in ages. It totally took my mind off the fact that I decided to peer R2 with R4 in BGP for VPNv4 routes instead of IPv4 ones (well I actually did both). That was just silly.

I’m pushing this SP lab on theory I read a year or so ago, and sometimes I have to play with things to force myself to remember WHY I’m doing things. This was one of those days.

I was hoping to have Lab 9 finished (I’ll do it tomorrow) and Lab 11 today, but probably won’t tidy it up until Saturday.

I got “stuck” on a Project Management call for 3 hours today. I shouldn’t complain as it was really useful - we’re putting together processes to ensure that the significant improvements in our materials seen in the new Voice and R&S (which I helped with) Blended Learning Solutions can be replicated quicker and easier across all our products. So effectively everything IPexpert does will be better still in the future. Man, we’re going to own the market, as the new stuff kicks ass. It’s funny how things changing has caused us to create even better products and to expand even more. Go read the newsletter…

I’m off to go have a long weekend. Chat later.
